Pictured is William “Captain Billy” Combs (1867-1964) , the canal boat captain
of the last canal boat to carry a “pay load” down the Miami-Erie Canal system. He is shown with a replica of the “DeCamp Statler” with which he ran part of the canal’s course for the last time in 1912. The model canal boat was built by his nephew, Olea Maxwell of Troy.
