On Saturday, June 20th, Miss Ohio Week 2015 came to a close, with 11 semi-finalists entering the final stage of the Miss Ohio title. New Bremen native, Lexi Richter, 21 was named 1st runner-up. Lexi was awarded a $4,000 scholarship and invited to compete at the National Sweetheart Pageant in Hoopeston, Illinois during Labor Day weekend.
As her platform, Richter had chosen 'Head 4 a cause', for awareness of concussions. Richter recently received her undergraduate degree in neuropsychology, so choosing the platform was of natural interest to her career aspirations. As part of her platform, Richter had written a book 'The Big Race' which was written to be "something more than a lecture" stated Richter. Working with Chief Skinner during Bike Safety Week, Richter had read the book to K-4 students of New Bremen Elementary to "make them aware of what could happen if you don't wear a helmet" added Richter. Richter's book is available with purchase with a portion of the proceeds going to the Children's Miracle Network as well as establishing a fund for project awareness. Richter hopes to organize a bike race locally, like the one in her book, in order to continue to spread the message of the importance of safety and awareness.
When asked the most difficult part of the Miss Ohio journey, Richter commented "The interviews were the most difficult. They were 10 minutes long and covered a broad range of current events". When asked what advice she would give to young girls, Richter replied, "Have faith in yourself. You cannot allow fear of failing to stop you".
