The New Bremen Community Improvement Corporation held an annual luncheon on Wednesday, April 27th.
Each year, the CIC board selects a community leader for the ‘Excellence in Business’ Award. The award recognizes a local businessperson who has shown a dedicated interest in the community, and has represented New Bremen in a positive and professional manner through business and/or philanthropic activities conducted in our community. The 2017 recipient was John Hoffman of Hoffman Decorating.
Many New Bremen families have played a significant role in our community. The Hoffman family is one of those families. As long-time owners of Hoffman Decorating, the Hoffman family holds the record for the longest running business in New Bremen. John’s great grandfather, Philip Hoffman arrived in New Bremen in 1875. Shortly after his arrival to the community he started a painting business. John and his wife Merrily, are the 4th generation of the business. John has been painting and wallpapering for 62 years. John & Merrily live in the home built in 1914 by his grandfather, Henry Hoffman.
John was a 1955 NBHS graduate, he has 4 children, Craig, Michelle, Amy and Linda.
In its 142nd year of business, Hoffman Decorating is now in 5th generation ownership, owned by his son Craig, with the assistance of John’s daughter Linda. Very few businesses can boast 5th generation family ownership.
John & Merrily built and own Lock One Storage, located just north of New Bremen. They have found this to be a successful venture. One of the founding members of the New Bremen Historic Association. John served as the Vice-President and President in the first two years of the organization. John enjoys collection and rebuilding classic cars. As well as purchasing and remodeling properties in the New Bremen area.
In appreciation for commitment to excellence, the New Bremen Community Improvement Corporation is pleased to present this year’s Excellence in Business Award to John Hoffman.
