JUNE 2009

YARD WASTE FACILITY

The Village Yard Waste Facility is located at 300 North Walnut Street, adjacent to the Wastewater Treatment Plant.  Grass clippings may be dumped as marked by signs.  You may also dispose of leaves and old vegetation.  Do not leave any material in plastic bags, take them with you.  There will also be a separate pile for limbs and brush, which will be ground up into mulch from time to time.  There is to be no dumping of garbage, construction material, junk or demolition debris.  Observe the signs and place the material on the appropriated piles.  Violations of the rules and regulations will be prosecuted as misdemeanors.  ONLY  village residents may use the facility.

Village residents only may remove mulch, at no charge, provided it is for residential use in the Village only.  This facility is paid for by Village taxpayers and Village residents are the only ones that may benefit.  There is a limit of two pickup loads per year.  The facility is open during daylight hours only, seven days per week.  You may pick up any firewood that is located on-site.

The Village continues to offer brush and limb pickup at the curb.  They must be placed in the tree lawn between the curb and sidewalk. Please do not place them in the alley.  This service is provided on Mondays and Fridays.

In addition, if you have a major tree and/or limb removal project, the Village will park a dump truck at your property overnight or over the weekend.  There is no charge for this service but you must schedule an appointment by calling the Public Works garage at 419-629-2802.

FISHING DERBY

The fishing derby will be held on Saturday morning July 18th this year.  Hopefully it will be cooler at this time and the fish will bite better.  The fishing time will be 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.  The format will be the same as last year, with 3 age groups.  Ages 3 thru 6, ages 7 thru 10 and ages 11 thru 15.  Prizes for the most fish will be awarded in each age group for the top 3 places.  There will also be a prize for the biggest fish in each age group.  Like last year there will also be prizes for the biggest fish caught overall and the most fish overall.  Russ Bailey, host of the fishing show Midwest Crappie, will be with us again this year.  He will be available during registration time to help you set up your fishing poles and to sign autographs.  Lots of door prizes will be given out, so hope to see you there.

BUILDING PERMITS

Village residents planning a building project should keep in mind that a local permit is needed for any new construction.  This includes sheds (on skids or permanent foundation), garages, new buildings, fences, signs and additions.  Porch and patio enclosures might require a permit and need to be checked along with raised decks.  Anything over one foot above ground level needs a permit.  Permits are obtainable at the Village Office for a nominal fee.  Please submit a site drawing with dimensions.

Maintenance projects are exempt, including siding, window and roofing replacement.  Indoor remodeling, sidewalks and driveways are completely exempt.

BABY-SITTING CLINIC

The annual TLC sponsored Baby-Sitting Clinic was held March 14th, 2009.This clinic was open to all 4th, 5th, 6th graders.  41 students attended.

The clinic is sponsored by the local TLC-OCCL (Ohio Conservation League).  Speakers from the village included the Police Department, Fire Department, Emergency Squad, a childcare expert, and a Mother and her infant.  Training will help the students learn the skills to become an informed and fun baby-sitter.  After completing the clinic the students have their parent’s permission to have their names and phone numbers listed.  Parents are encouraged to know who your child is babysitting for.
