03/29/2010On Thursday, March 25th, approximately 135 parents and students from New Bremen, Minster and New Knoxville gathered at New Bremen High School to learn about future job opportunities and the training available to learn the skills these jobs will require. Community Career Connection, a collaborative event sponsored by the three villages and their school districts was an event which intended to provide information to students and parents which could be used to guide career and education choices.
The evening began with a keynote presentation by Mark Hartman of Battelle for Kids. In his presentation, Mr. Hartman discussed the important roles that students, parents, teachers and communities have in ensuring our young people are prepared to take advantage of future careers. Following his presentation, students were able to meet with over 35 representatives from local companies, all of which represented career paths and occupations that have been identified as those having growth potential and employment openings over the next 10 years in our area. At the same time, parents heard from representatives of Tri-Star, Vantage Career Center, Rhoads State, Apollo Career Center and WSU Lake Campus about the educational opportunities available in our area to help students obtain the skills and education necessary to pursue these careers.
A valuable resource, ohioskillsbank.com, was also presented.
