(419) 629.2717In February 2007, Linda Baker and Karla Thornton opened the doors to their business, New Bremen Massage Clinic. The New Bremen High School graduates and life-long friends had attended Massage Sinclair Community College and obtained their Associate degrees, passed their state board exams and received their State Licenses. While working for others, they had thought about starting their own business, but kept putting it off. Then, when a location on S. Washington Street became available, things came together very quickly. In the short time between December 31st 2006 and opening day in February 2007, they signed a lease, made some decorating decisions, and opened their doors.
Three years later they have a steady clientele and are very glad they decided to work for themselves. “Our major accomplishment is starting the business and having it grow.” they said. “We are very glad we did it.”
And their business is growing. To keep up with demand, Rhonda Bowlby, LMT was welcomed to the staff. They also publish, Massage Therapy Helps! a newsletter which keeps clients informed about the business and the benefits of massage therapy.
When asked what their major challenge in operating the business, “Paperwork.” was their response. “It’s hard to find the time to keep up with it all, but we do.”
While many think of a massage as a “treat” or something you do to pamper yourself, 90% of the clients that come to New Bremen Massage Clinic come in for a medical massage. Medical massage can be used to help alleviate a variety of conditions such as migraine headaches, sciatica, fibromyalgia, plantar fasciitis, and lower back pain. Karla and Linda both hold Associates Degrees from Sinclair Community College. “People don’t realize how extensive our training is,” said Linda. “We had a two year course of study which emphasized a great deal of human physiology and human anatomy.”
