Dedication of the Shared-Use Path

In connection with National Trails Day, a dedication of the newly paved shared-use path will take place on Saturday, June 6th.  The project was completed late fall 2014, connecting New Bremen with Lock Two via the Miami and Erie Canal towpath.

The celebration will be hosted by the Village of New Bremen and the Miami & Erie Canal Corridor Association (MECCA).

Komminsk Legacy Park

The new interactive art park in New Bremen will be under construction soon.  The brain-child of Christy Shell of Zeal Coaching for Life and Career, and in partnership with Enrichment, etc!, the Village of New Bremen and Dianne Komminsk, this park is destined to draw visitors from all over the region to interact, explore and participate in a way that traditional parks do not allow.  Some of the park features are: an embankment slide, a splash pad, a sun-shade structure by Tork Werks, hillside seating, and a commissioned lion sculpture.  The park will be developed in the 3.4 acre area between

New Bremen recognized as a Tree City USA

New Bremen was recently recognized as a Tree City USA.  The Northwest Ohio awards ceremony was hosted by the City of Toledo and their Urban Forestry Commission.  This is the 20th year that the community of New Bremen has been honored with this nationally recognized award.

New Bremen CIC Annual Luncheon

The New Bremen Community Improvement Corporation will be holding an annual luncheon on Wednesday, April 22nd

Each year, the CIC board selects a community leader for the Excellence in Business Award. The award recognizes a local business person who has shown a dedicated interest in the community through participation and leadership in several areas within the community and has represented New Bremen in a positive and professional manner through business and/or philanthropic activities conducted in our community and beyond. 

Local Students speak to Service Clubs

Recently nine students, who participated in Exploration Academy 2014, visited three local service clubs who sponsored the event.  The students expressed gratitude for the service clubs financial contribution for the program, as well as shared the value they each received from the event.

New Bremen Historic Association Announces Tree Festival Winners

Nearly forty displays filled the three floors of The Lockkeeper's House in New Bremen during the holiday season for the historic association's annual Christmas Tree Festival.  Displays included a variety of creativity such as a full size lit tree made of PVC pipe, handmade recycled ornaments and everything in between. 

The displays were judged by a panel of 3 judges and prizes were awarded as follows:

CIC Photo Contest Winner Announced

The New Bremen Community Improvement Corporation has announced the winner of the 2014 CIC Photo Contest.  The winning selection is “New Bremen Cardinal on Walnut St”.  The winning photo was submitted by Genevieve Conradi, of New Bremen.

Tree Commission

The Village of New Bremen Tree Commission is in need of members.   The group meets every other month, with a few volunteer days per year.

Projects planned for 2015 include: inventory of existing trees in the Village and working with the State Forester to complete a master tree plan.

Scholarship available for 2015 NBHS Graduates

As a member owner of American Municipal Power (AMP) the Village of New Bremen is able to extend AMP scholarship opportunities to graduating seniors of New Bremen High School. Currently the Scholarship Committee of the American Municipal Power Board of Trustees is calling for nominations for scholarships awarded in memory of Lyle B. Wright and Richard H. Gorsuch, distinguished leaders in public power history.  Participating in the scholarship program is an excellent way to show community involvement and support education.  AMP will award up to four Lyle B. Wright and up to four Richard H.

Village Seeking Apprentice Lineman

The Village of New Bremen is accepting applications for the full time position of Apprentice Lineman in the Municipal Electric Department, an Entry Level Position.  This will be an hourly position with full benefits.  The hourly rate starts at $13.47 per hour for the apprentice classification, DOQ.  Once fully qualified, linemen are required to be on stand-by for a one week period on a rotating basis and report for outages whenever called.

Veteran's Day

 

Veterans Day: A celebration to honor America's veterans for their patriotism, love of country, and willingness to serve and sacrifice for the common good.

Please take time to honor a veteran, even if it is a simple statement to thank them for their service.  Here are just a few example of how our community will be honoring veterans over the coming days:

November 8th:  Post 241 Veteran's Day Dinner
After the program there will be a DJ on the bar side.

2014 Cider Time

Since 1955, the annual Cider Time parade has been a New Bremen tradition.  The parade begins at the north end of Lion's Park with village fire trucks leading the pack.  Children of all ages march down Main & Plum with the Crown Pavilion as the final destination.  Upon arrival at the Pavilion, donuts and apple cider await.  Following the parade, the costume contest begins with a wide array of creativity on display.  The costume contest categories range from Clowns & Witches, Scariest, Funniest, most unique and everything in between.

4 Tips for having a fun and safe Trick or Treat.

Plan your route.

Planning a route prior to departing will help keep you on track and will allow you to hit more houses in one night.

Wear comfy shoes.

A lot of walking is in needed to get around town. 

Stay well-lit.

Beggar's night is scheduled for dusk. It will be dark by the time the night is through. Remember to wear brigh clothing or add reflective tape to your costumes so that traffic will be able to see you.
