New Bremen Community Photo Album
On January 5, 2005, freezing rain began during the day and it
continued until we had coatings of ice in the vicinity of ¾ inch
on everything. Tree branches were especially susceptible
and trees and branches all over western Ohio were loaded down with
the weight of the ice until branches and entire trees snapped off,
bringing electric and communication wires with them. Whereas
most freezing rain melts off the same day, this time it hung on
for days. It was probably the worst winter storm since the
Blizzard of 1978.
The following photos were taken by Village personnel on Friday, January
7, and show both the devastation that followed, along with a glimmer
of beauty in some scenes.
